Nila · Updated 23 September 2026

Your attention is personal.

Nila stores your focus library on your devices. We do not run a server that receives your task content, sell your data or use it for advertising.

1. Who we are

Nila — Focus Timer is provided by Hastings Dynamics Ltd, company number 13958053, 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. This notice covers Nila’s apps, beta versions, Nila web pages and support. Contact hastingsdynamics@gmail.com about privacy.

Nila is in private testing on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The initial mobile TestFlight build does not include app blocking or Screen Time access. Enabling those features in a later build requires Apple’s Family Controls approval, requested on 23 September 2026. Subscription and production iCloud configuration are still being prepared. Descriptions of optional features below apply when those features are available and you enable them.

2. Information the app processes

  • Your tasks, projects, routines, estimates, goals, planned focus blocks, session history and session events.
  • Settings and technical identifiers used to save records, recognise devices, reconcile sync changes and transfer an active session.
  • Selected linked reminder information, including its title, notes, due date and identifier. Calendar access displays events from your selected calendars and writes Nila focus blocks.
  • Apple-signed purchase and entitlement information, such as product, expiry and revocation status. Apple processes payments; Nila does not receive your card details.
  • Contact details, messages and attachments you choose to send to support.

Nila uses this information to run timers, organise your work, show reports and provide the connections you request. Core processing runs on device. There are no advertising, third-party analytics or hosted AI services in the app.

3. Local storage and optional iCloud sync

Your library is saved locally. When available and enabled with Pro, sync stores tasks, projects, routines, settings, history and active-session information in your private CloudKit database. Your supported devices signed in to the same Apple Account can receive this information. Apple supplies the storage and network services under its own terms; we do not receive a copy of your library on a developer-operated server.

Sync includes record and device identifiers, timestamps, deletion markers and ownership-transfer events so devices can reconcile changes. Delivery depends on connectivity and your iCloud account. Screen Time selections remain in the local app-group storage and are not included in Nila’s CloudKit library sync. Device backups and exported files are governed by your backup and storage choices.

4. Screen Time and website blocking

On iPhone and iPad, optional app blocking uses Apple’s Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity frameworks for your own focus and productivity. Nila requests individual authorisation and lets you choose applications, categories or websites through Apple’s picker. The picker supplies privacy-preserving selection tokens. These selections are stored locally and used to apply shields during eligible focus sessions.

The Device Activity extension manages the scheduled shielding interval; Shield Configuration provides the shield’s appearance; Shield Action handles the available shield actions. Nila does not upload these selections or Screen Time usage data to us, use them for advertising, sell them, or share them with data brokers. This feature does not supervise another adult’s device or provide organisational device management.

You can disable blocking in Nila and revoke Screen Time authorisation in system settings. On Mac, the optional Safari extension checks visited domains locally against your chosen block list. It does not send browsing history to a developer server. Safari permission can be withdrawn in Safari’s extension settings.

5. Optional permissions and your choices

Calendar and Reminders access is optional on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Nila displays selected calendars and writes planned focus blocks to its Nila calendar. It reads reminders to let you choose a link; completing a linked reminder requires your explicit action. Linked reminder information and planned blocks become part of your library and can sync when enabled. Your calendar and reminder provider may independently sync its own records.

Notifications provide session alerts and optional reminders. Widget, Live Activity and Watch features can display timer information on your device; consider your lock-screen privacy settings. Denying these permissions does not prevent use of the core timer. You can manage permissions in system settings and sound and haptic preferences in Nila.

6. Purchases, diagnostics and service providers

Apple handles subscriptions, restoration and any App Store metrics or crash reports it makes available according to your settings and its policies. We use available diagnostics to investigate faults. The app does not include a separate third-party analytics SDK.

If you email us, Google’s Gmail service processes the correspondence. Please send only what is needed to explain the issue and remove private task content from screenshots. We use support information to reply, investigate issues and protect the service, and may disclose relevant information when legally required.

Vercel hosts these web pages. Requests necessarily include technical information such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information and request time; the host may use technical logs for delivery and security. Nila’s web pages do not use advertising cookies, marketing trackers or embedded contact forms.

Providers may process information outside the UK. Transfers for which we are responsible must use applicable adequacy arrangements or other valid safeguards. See the Apple, Google and Vercel privacy notices for their processing.

7. Legal bases and retention

Where UK data-protection law applies to processing for which we are responsible, we rely on performing our contract to provide requested features, consent for optional access where required, legitimate interests in answering support requests and investigating faults, and legal obligations where applicable. Withdrawing consent does not affect prior lawful processing.

Your library remains until you delete it. Subscription expiry does not automatically delete records. Support correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle the request and related security, dispute or legal requirements; unnecessary attachments should be removed once no longer needed. Apple, Google and Vercel retain their service records under their own arrangements.

8. Export, deletion and your rights

Use Settings to export session history as CSV or your full library as JSON. Keep exports secure. Delete library in Settings removes app library records and, when sync is available, propagates deletion to connected devices. Deletion markers are retained to prevent records reappearing. Offline devices and backups may retain earlier copies. App preferences, blocking selections, Calendar events and Reminders are separate from library records; manage those through their respective controls. Uninstalling the app is not a request to delete iCloud data.

You can manage Nila’s iCloud storage in Apple’s system settings. Deleting data does not cancel a subscription; use App Store subscription management. We cannot delete copies you export or Apple’s own purchase records.

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent. We do not hold your private library, so most library changes happen on your devices. Contact us about information we do hold, such as support correspondence. We normally respond within one month, subject to applicable legal exceptions. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

9. Changes and contact

We update the date when this notice changes and provide further notice of material changes where appropriate. Optional uses that need consent will not be enabled simply by changing this page. Contact hastingsdynamics@gmail.com or write to our address above. See Nila support for practical help.
