A little help.
Practical answers for everyday care. Kindred is a medication organiser; always follow your prescriber’s instructions and keep your established routine in place during testing.
Start with a sample
Choose “Explore a sample family” on the welcome screen to try fictional records. Sample data is separate from personal records and does not schedule reminders. Choose “Exit sample” to return to your own workspace. The current private beta is available to invited testers through Apple TestFlight.
Set up care
Choose “Set up my care” for yourself or “Care for someone” for a person whose records you have permission or authority to manage. Add a medicine from Medicines using offline name suggestions or a custom name. Check the name, strength, quantity, unit, instructions and schedule against your prescription, and save. Always check the person’s name before recording a dose.
Separate local profiles can include children or represented adults, managed by an authorised adult. There are no remote invitations or shared accounts in the current version. Mac and iPhone keep independent records.
How reminders work
Turn on Medication reminders in Settings or use “Turn on reminders” in Medicines, then allow notifications in system settings. Saving a medicine schedule alone does not enable reminders. The medicine screen shows reminder readiness and the next queued reminder when available. Check Focus, notification and sound settings if an alert does not appear. On supported iPhones, you can separately authorise prominent alarms. Dismissing an alarm does not record a dose.
Standard dose reminders and local care updates share a queue of the earliest 60 notifications, scheduled up to 14 days ahead. Enabling care updates can reduce how far ahead dose reminders fit in the queue. Prominent alarms cover up to 7 days with a maximum of 24 alarms. A busy schedule can fill the limit sooner. Settings shows the current scheduled-through time. Open Kindred regularly to replenish the schedule, particularly after travel, time changes or editing medicines. Delivery is not guaranteed.
Discreet previews hide names and medicine details by default. Recording Taken or Skip from a notification requires device unlock. Optional confirmation sounds and haptics are controlled separately in Settings. The app does not notify remote carers about an unconfirmed dose.
Choose local care updates
Open Family → Care updates and choose a person. You can turn on updates for recorded doses, unconfirmed or skipped entries, low stock and received refills. Each choice starts off. Unconfirmed-dose delays can be 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes. These choices are separate from ordinary dose reminders but still need system notification permission.
Updates use records on this device. They do not enrol a relative’s account or send notifications to another person’s phone. An unconfirmed entry means no confirmation is present locally, not that a dose was definitely missed. Turn an update off to cancel its queued notifications. Restoring a backup clears these notification choices so you can choose again.
Record or correct a dose
Use Taken, Snooze or Skip on Today. Open “Review / correct” to change the recorded quantity or actual time. Corrections retain history. An overdue or unconfirmed entry is not proof that a medicine was missed. Do not take another dose based only on a missing record; follow the advice given by your clinician or pharmacist.
Supplies and appointment reports
Open a medicine to record a refill receipt or stock adjustment. Stock is an estimate based on the entries you make; check the physical supply. For an appointment, open Reports, select the person and dates, choose whether to include symptoms, then preview or export a PDF or CSV.
Symptoms are observations, not a diagnosis or proof of a medicine’s effect. Reports contain personal information and are not encrypted. Select the recipient carefully. Kindred does not send records to a doctor automatically.
Paired Apple Watch
The Watch shows the paired iPhone owner’s self-profile schedule, not every family member’s medicines. Open Kindred on your iPhone and Watch to refresh. The current Watch cache holds today’s schedule; it needs a new phone refresh on another day.
Offline dose actions wait in an encrypted queue until the phone acknowledges them. Check the pending-sync indicator and last-updated time. A queued snooze may arrive too late to create the requested phone reminder. Standalone family-managed Watches are not supported.
Apple Health
Optional medication reading requires a supported iPhone and iOS 26 or later. Open Settings → Apple Health, connect your own self profile, then choose medicines in Apple’s permission sheet. Select a medicine to view available dose history from the last 30 days, with up to 200 events per medicine. You can show archived medicines, refresh or turn off Health reading. To revoke the system permission, manage Kindred access in Apple Health. Empty results may mean no authorised data is available. Kindred does not write medications to Health, import a family member’s records into your Health store or access HealthKit on Mac. Reading Health does not import reminder schedules, update Kindred dose logs or deduct stock. Health results are excluded from reports, backups, care updates and Watch schedules.
Back up or move devices
Open Settings → Encrypted backup & restore → Prepare backup. Save the encrypted file and keep its recovery key separately in a safe place. On the destination device, enter the key and choose the file. The app checks the backup before asking to replace existing records.
Restoring replaces all local profiles. Back up current records first if you want to keep them. Restoring an older backup can bring back previously deleted records. Sample backups and personal workspaces cannot be mixed. Apple Health data is excluded. We cannot recover a lost key.
Delete your records
Open Family, select the person and use the profile’s delete action. To remove all medication records, repeat for each profile. Connect and open the paired Watch to let the updated empty schedule arrive. Remove exported reports and backup files separately, including copies in cloud drives or held by recipients.
Kindred has no server account to delete. Removing Kindred does not delete your Apple Health data. Read the privacy policy for deletion and backup limitations.
Subscriptions and availability
In versions offering Kindred Plus, open Settings and choose the Plus card to see the current local monthly price, restore purchases or manage your subscription. Free includes one profile and complete everyday care. Plus adds additional profiles, a combined overview, a refill planner in Medicines and appointment summaries in Reports. Preview the tools using fictional examples before purchasing. Existing profiles, reminders, logging, basic stock tools, basic exports and saved outputs remain available after cancellation. Additional profiles and new advanced plans and summaries require active Plus access. Apple Family Sharing shares the subscription entitlement only. Medical records never share automatically, and Mac and iPhone records do not sync. TestFlight purchases use Apple’s testing environment; earlier builds may not offer a purchase flow.
Contact us
Email hello@support.hastingsdynamics.com with “Kindred Support”, your platform, app version, OS version and the steps that caused the issue. Describe it with fictional examples. Do not attach medication reports, other people’s health details, passwords or backup recovery keys. In TestFlight, you can also use Send Beta Feedback and check any screenshot for private information before sending.
